William Rodney Cochran

Rod Cochran, 76, of Lubbock, Texas passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2026. Rod was born April 26, 1950 to Bill and Letha Cochran in Putney, West Virgimia. As a child his family moved to Butte, Montana, a place very dear to his heart, where he lived until 1967. The family then moved to Bucyrus, Ohio. Rod graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1968. In 1969 he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1969-1976. His first station was at Reese AFB, Lubbock, Texas where he met Delores Hobbs. They married on July 2, 1971 and shared 55 wonderful years together. With their son Brent they moved to Anderson AFB, Guam in 1973-1975. In 1975, Rod was reassigned to Nellis AFB, Nevada where he was a member of the original Red Flag Combat Training Unit, which he loved talking about and was extremely proud to have been a member. After his enlistment ended in 1976, he and his family returned to Lubbock.. After returning to Lubbock, Rod worked in the truck leasing industry for Ryder, Rollins and Penske and also as store manager for McWhorter's Truck Center until 2012 when he retired. He loved spending time outdoors with family and friends and also his dogs fishing, hunting and camping especially at Roaring Springs, his favorite place to get away. Rod was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, two sisters-in -law and one brother-in-law. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Delores, his son, Brent (Sarah), granddaughter Courtney Schumann (Justin), grandson Matt, four brothers Dave (Jackie), Steve (Anissa), Jeff (Mary) and Joe (Mary), sister Yvonne Creecy (Terry), brothers-in-law, Dale Hobbs (Linda), and David Hobbs (Beverly) and many extended family members and friends. We would like to thank Bristol Hospice for their care, especially Donnetta and Liz. Rod was baptized into Christ on April 6, 2024. He wanted everyone to know how important his relationship to Christ became and that it is never too late to accept salvation. His family will gather to meet friends on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Sanders Funeral Home. A committal service with military honors will be held at the West Texas Veterans Cemetery in the near future.
